EDUCATION

BE NEXT

BE NEXT is BE FESTIVAL’s free youth theatre programme. It offers a unique opportunity to 15-19 year-olds who are based in Birmingham. Young people whose first language is not English, or who have not done theatre before, are particularly encouraged to get involved. We will recruit a company of 20 actors to take part in the scheme.

For two weeks, the BE NEXT company will take part in afternoon theatre workshops led by two professional theatre directors from abroad. The workshops will explore ensemble and physical theatre techniques, and the group will create a short piece to be premiered on the main festival stage, in front of a packed house, on Saturday 9th July.
BE NEXT participants will recieve a free festival and dinner pass, as well as photos and a DVD of their performance

On BE NEXT 2010:
It was absolutely terrific (amazing)’ - Betty Zenab, aged 15
I enjoyed all the things the BE Festival offered. I enjoyed performing to all the people and watching people perform’ - Muyibur Rehman, aged 15
Thank you so much. I had so much fun and completely loved working with you both. Hope to do it again next year’ - Loan Nguyen, aged 19

BE – WORKSHOPS

Following the success of BE FESTIVAL 2010 and 2011’s programme of workshops, we want to continue offering the public and our visiting companies the experience of working with highly-regarded established practitioners.

As well as being open to participating companies and festival volunteers, Midlands-based artists, students and interested audience members will be also be offered a limited number of free places, with sign-up available in advance.

This scheme offers the public a clear opportunity for meaningful engagement, becoming active, creative and important contributors to BE FESTIVAL. We also believe the workshop-leaders will gain a great deal from sharing their practise with like-minded professionals and interested amateurs.

This year’s programme will be revealed in March.
