The culmination of a year-long international theatre experiment. At BE 2011, companies were asked to each nominate one performer to stay in Birmingham for a week-long devising process after the festival. A group of ten artists from many different countries and training backgrounds came together, and BE Mix was born – culturally diverse and artistically eclectic. Provoked and inspired by the work of our resident visual artist Federico Sancho, the company started to work on a show exploring the city’s shifting industrial identity. They interviewed factory workers, recorded sounds, and explored the city. At the end of the week they gave an audacious scratch performance at MAC.

In the run-up to BE 2012, BE Mix have been back in the city developing and rehearsing the piece, and their finished performance marks an exciting beginning to our Made in Birmingham programme.
